European Union calls for the release of abducted Zimbabwean Doctor

Harare-As the whereabouts of Dr Peter Magombeyi remain a mystery the European Union (EU) has joined the chorus of voices calling for his immediate release.

Dr. Magombeyi the acting president of the Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) was abducted on Saturday night.

In a statement, Wednesday morning, the EU urged the government to act swiftly as per a court order and do all it can to bring Dr Magombeyi home safe.

“Dr Magombeyi is still missing more than 3 days after he vanished. We can only imagine the agony this causes his family and friends.

“The government needs to act swiftly as per court order and do all it can to find him, to bring him home safe and the perpetrators to justice” read the statement

The abduction of Dr. Magombeyi has left the country’s health institutions in quandary as doctors and other health workers have downed tools, demanding his immediate release.

Dr. Magombeyi’s abduction has once again put Zimbabwe under spotlight as it comes on the heels of a visit by United Nations Special Rapporteur Clement Voule to assess the human rights situation, as rights groups.
