Harare-MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has appealed to the international community to intervene in the country’s crisis as a way of ending atrocities against civilians.
Addressing a press conference at MDC headquarters in Harare Chamisa said his party was still keen to engage in the national dialogue with President Emerson Mnangagwa and also wanted to involve the international community and Sadc leaders to end the political crisis in the country.
‘‘I have written more five times to President Mnangagwa to have a meeting with my party leadership and I have approached the Sadc leaders for their intervention but I am yet to receive any reply from Mnangagwa and Sadc leaders as well.
‘’We are going to take the matter up further and we asking the international community to also intervene in the dialogue we want to start as there is a humanitarian crisis in the country, because of the interference of the military,’’ said Chamisa,
He also denied that his party was responsible for the violence that happened two weeks ago.
Chamisa, said the demonstration was organised by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions ZCTU and not his party which was now being blamed for the violence
“We did not organised the demonstration that happened last week as it was called by ZCTU and we do not need proxies or social media to organise the demonstration as we do it openly. We shall organise our own demonstration that we are planning” said Chamisa.
The Government is on record saying that the recent protest that left a trail of destruction in various cities and towns was organised by the MDC Alliance with the help of Civic Society Organisations and Western Countries.
