Staff ReporterIt’s been a long slog to get to this point, but we’re finally here! Nominations for president of the African National Congress (ANC) and other top positions is taking place in Nasrec where the ANC is holding its 54th Elective Conference.
While most interest centres around the ANC president, other top positions are also up for grabs. The race started off with seven candidates, but on Saturday night, one candidate, Baleka Mbete, withdrew and publicly endorsed Cyril Ramaphosa.
The race is largely expected to play out between Ramaphosa and Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma. There will be branch nominations for the positions and nominations from the floor. Voting will then commence – and while the ANC insists that announcements of the positions will be made on Sunday, it could be a late night.
