Government has recruited 2 300 teachers nationwide to enable full implementation of the new curriculum introduced early this year.
Prior to the move, schools were facing implementation hiccups due to shortage of teachers.
Following a request by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education for employment of additional qualified teachers, the Public Service Commission and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development approved recruitment of 2 300 teachers.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Sylvia Utete-Masango said the recruitment was done nationwide in a thorough exercise guided by the new curriculum requirements.
Dr Utete-Masango added the recruitment is being done in batches and will continue until the shortages are done with.
Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Lazarus Dokora is on record saying more than 7 000 teachers are required to enable full implementation of the new curriculum.
Meanwhile, schools open this Tuesday (tomorrow) for the third school term.
