Harare-Vincent Tsvangirai, son to the late MDC founding President has been selected as the party’s candidate for Glen View South Constituency after winning the primary elections held this afternoon.
According to Fani Munengami MDC Harare Communications Secretary Vincent trounced his opponent by more than 100 votes.
“Vincent won by more than 100 votes against his closest rival Tahwa, who only managed 62 votes” said Munengami
MDC Harare Provincial Chairperson, Wellington Chikombo said that the party’s focus should now be to campaign in order to retain the Constituency.
“This is our stronghold, it’s our Constituency and we need to work extra hard in order to retain and preserve the legacy of our late President, Dr Tsvangirai” said Chikombo
Speaking soon after the elections, Willias Madzimure, the Sec for Elections in Harare Province said the holding of the primary elections in the Constituency was a clear testimony in democracy in the party.
The Constituency fell vacant after the death of Vimbai Tsvangirai Java, who was the eldest daughter of Morgan Tsvangirai. The late Hon Vimbai succumbed injuries sustained in a horrific car accident between Kwekwe and Kadoma early this year.
The by- elections for Glen View South will be held on the 7th of September 2019.
