Zimbabwean man from Manchester has died in a fall from M62 Scammonden Road Bridge.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed they were called to the scene, between J22 and J23, shortly before 11 am Sunday morning.

It’s believed the man in his 50s jumped to his death in a case of suspected suicide.

Details of this tragic incident are sketchy as police are continuing with their investigations.

The man is the second person to die after falling from the bridge in as many months, following the death of a man at the same spot in September.

The Examiner has previously reported that Highways England, which maintains the bridge, have said they are looking at what can be done following a number of deaths in recent months.

The motorway was closed for better half of the day in both directions while emergency services attended the incident and has since re-opened.
