Staff ReporterSix people died on the spot and eight others were injured when a Toyota Quantum they were travelling in sideswiped following attempts to overtake a haulage truck, 13 kilometres before Beitbridge along the Bulawayo highway yesterday evening.
The two vehicles were headed towards Beitbridge.
The accident occurred when the driver of the Toyota Quantum carrying 14 passengers tried to overtake a haulage truck only to realise there was oncoming traffic and attempts to return back to his lane failed.
Both vehicles veered off the road and as a result of the collision the Toyota Quantum was trapped under the truck.
The names of the deceased are still being withheld until their next of kin have been notified.
Those injured were referred to Beitbridge district hospital.
