Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of singer and actor Dumi Masilela.

Dumi was shot during an attempted hijacking in Tembisa early this month. He was visiting a friend when they were ambushed while sitting in his vehicle. He then attempted to drive himself to hospital, but handed the wheel over to his friend halfway through the journey.

Dumi was hit in the abdomen and died in hospital. He was laid to rest on Saturday.

Police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini confirmed the arrests.

“There are three suspects who have been arrested and at this stage these are linked to a  hijacked vehicle that was used during the shooting incident which resulted in the death of Dumi Masilela,” he said.

Meanwhile, writers and producers of e.tv’s soapie ‘Rhythm City’ are tasked with having to write Dumi’s character, Sifiso Ngema, out of the show.

Speaking to us, ‘Rhythm City’ spokesperson Joe Strydom said the soapie’s creators are yet to decide how they will handle Dumi’s character’s exit.

“It hasn’t been decided how Dumi will exit the show. There have been discussions but it will most likely be decided at an upcoming production meeting. They will come up with scenarios and ideas and then decide on the best way forward. We want to make sure that it honours Dumi’s legacy,” he said.

Dumi’s character will remain onscreen in his current storyline until October
