May 29, 2017

A man has been arrested in West Sussex in connection with the Manchester bombing, police confirmed.

The 23-year-old was held in the early hours of Monday morning on suspicion of terror offences at an address in Shoreham-by-Sea as the inquiry has spread to the south coast.

The suspect is the 16th to be arrested in connection with the Manchester Arena atrocity, with 14 men now held in custody over the attack that left 22 dead and over 100 injured.

Shortly after the arrest was announced GMP said officers had also executed a warrant in the Chester area of Cheshire, although no arrests had been made.

Police have been working round-the-clock since Abedi blew himself up with a home-made nail bomb amid concert-goers, many of them young girls, at the Manchester Arena in a horror that shook the nation.

The race to dismantle a suspected network connected to the terrorist saw a flurry of arrests over the weekend, with armed police launching raids in the Gorton and Old Trafford areas of Manchester.

With the intense series of police operations showing no signs of abating:

Police remain at a property in Shoreham-on-Sea, a desirable home counties town where a man was arrested in connection with the attack.

Officers from Cheshire Police and Counter Terrorism Policing North West searched an address in Chester in connection with the attack.

A 19-year-old man was arrested in Gorton late on Sunday, while a 25-year-old man was also held on suspicion of terror offences in Old Trafford.
