ZRP Investigates Viral Video of Minors Drinking Beer in Harare CBD

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has initiated a thorough investigation following the emergence of a viral video showing young boys, aged between 5 and 10 years, consuming alcohol in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD). This incident, captured in a video that spread rapidly across various social media platforms, reportedly took place on Christmas day.

The disturbing footage showcases a group of minors engaging in alcohol consumption, an act seemingly done with the knowledge, if not consent, of their parents. This act has sparked widespread concern and condemnation across social media, highlighting issues of child welfare and public responsibility.

In the video, a young boy is overheard alerting his mother to the fact that they are being recorded. “Mom, someone is taking us pictures,” he shouts, bringing to light the public nature of the incident.

Responding to the public outcry, the ZRP released a statement on Tuesday, affirming their commitment to investigating the matter. The police are focusing on identifying the location of the incident, the identities of the minors involved, their parents, and the individual who supplied the alcohol.

“The ZRP has taken note of a viral social media video, particularly on WhatsApp platforms, where minors are openly seen drinking beer in a public place in Harare CBD,” the police statement read. “Investigations are now underway with the aim of identifying the place, the young boys, their parents, and the person who might have facilitated the acquisition of the alcohol by the minors.”

The incident has raised serious questions about child safety and parental responsibility in Zimbabwe. The ZRP’s investigation is ongoing, and the public awaits further updates on this troubling situation.
