Bulawayo, Zimbabwe: In a tragic road incident on the outskirts of Bulawayo, a devastating collision between a Toyota Quantum carrying 21 passengers and a DAF truck has resulted in the loss of 22 lives, including 15 men, seven women, and two children. The accident occurred late on Tuesday night, according to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.
The collision happened at around 10 pm near the Thandweni Store, 27 kilometers along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road. Assistant Commissioner Nyathi provided a brief statement on the catastrophe, urging motorists to exercise increased caution, particularly when traveling at night.
“The ZRP (Zimbabwe Republic Police) reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on November 14 at around 2200 hours at the 27-kilometre peg along Bulawayo-Beitbridge Road near Thandweni Store,” said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi. “In this horrific incident, 22 people were killed, and two others were injured when a Toyota Quantum vehicle with 21 passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with a DAF truck with one passenger on board.”
The injured victims have been admitted to the United Bulawayo Group of Hospitals. The accident has shocked the local community and has raised concerns about road safety in the region.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances leading up to the accident and have appealed to witnesses to come forward to assist with the investigation. This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for vigilance while driving, especially during night hours.
