Harare- The MDC has maintained its stance on President Emmerson Mnangagwa saying he remains illegitimate.

This comes after the opposition legislators walked out on Mnangagwa during the 2020 budget presentation Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube at parliament. Speculation was high in the media that the MDC had dropped its stance on Mnangagwa.

However, MDC spokesperson Daniel Molokele issues a statement saying they are very clear on the legitimacy issue.

“The MDC and indeed our President’s stance remains very clear and unequivocal … ED is illegitimate, Period. It remains our considered view as the people’s party that Zimbabwe still does not have a popularly elected President.  The results of the 2018 Presidential elections as announced are definitely not a true reflection of the people’s electoral will,” said Molokele

MDC maintains that their leader Nelson Chamisa was the outright winner of the 2018 election despite the Constitutional Court ruling that Mnangagwa was the winner.

“The MDC has no doubt that our own candidate, Advocate Nelson Chamisa was the outright and undisputed winner of the 2018 Presidential elections with over 2.6 million votes” he said

Previously MDC legislators have walked out on Mnangagwa during the State of the Nation Address (SONA). The moved attracted the wrath of the August House which deducted allowances for the legislators.
