Staff ReporterThe government says it will continue implementing the new curriculum given positive results recorded at Grade 7 especially in Agriculture which was the newly examined subject.
The country this year recorded a pass rate of 44.73 % which is an increase by 1.83% compared to last year’s pass rate.
Grade 7 pupils this year set for five subjects after the addition of Agriculture and the subject recorded a 50.13 pass rate.
Speaking at a media briefing in Harare this evening, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Professor Paul Mavhima said the government is happy with the results as the introduction of Agriculture did not affect pupils’ performance.
He assured the nation that all pupils will secure form 1 places at both boarding and day schools, saying the e-map registration process for those willing to apply for boarding places continues to be open.
Braille candidates recorded a pass rate of 71.43 %, enlarged print candidates recorded a pass rate of 50%, while candidates who are hard of hearing recorded a pass rate of 31.59%.
The government promised to continue supporting students with hearing impairments by giving them assistive devices.
