From Washington: Testing the new missile defense program, the Pentagon held a missile test to see its capabilities. It was a success for the program because it took down the fake warhead that was used. This test was held in the South Pacific, a famous place to test nuclear bombs and different types of arsenal.
Facts about this defense system explain that this is a missile that can travel at trajectory speed, enough speed to catch up to an intercontinental nuclear missile and disable it. North Korea has made plenty of short range missiles, but they now have a long range missile in their hands. Our safety and national security is at risk because these new war heads can fly directly to the United States mainland.
The director of the Missile Defense Agency, Jim Syring, called it an “incredible accomplishment”. Syring is a Vice Admiral for the agency. He was happy to announce this venture after major setbacks.
“This system is vitally important to the defense of our homeland, and this test demonstrates that we have a capable, credible deterrent against a very real threat. I am incredibly proud of the warfighters who executed this test and who operate this system every day,” Syring said in a statement announcing the test result. – CBS News
The Pentagon is currently still working on the missile defense system, hiring engineers to upgrade the interceptor. But has yet to be tested. Overall, before this successful missile test there were seventeen tries and nine of them were a success.
If an actual missile was sent towards the United States, multiple interceptors would be released. If one interceptor fails. we have multiple others that would take its place and have the nuclear arm disabled.
North Korea is blaming their massive missile program on the U.S., saying we are a major threat.
