Johannesburg, South Africa – In a shocking incident that has rattled the community of Primrose, Johannesburg, a 13-year-old boy was arrested on Friday morning for the alleged shooting of his school principal. The Gauteng Police have confirmed the arrest, with the 51-year-old victim currently receiving medical attention at a local hospital.

Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, spokesperson for the Gauteng police, stated, “The circumstances leading to this distressing event are still under investigation. Our officers are working diligently to uncover how the teenager came into possession of the firearm, which has since been confiscated.”

The young suspect is slated to appear before the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of attempted murder. This case has drawn attention to the issue of firearm control and youth violence within the community.

Further complicating the matter, the father of the teenager has been arrested under suspicion of giving his son the gun purportedly for protection. This follows a similar incident in 2022, where a Limpopo man was detained for negligently handling a firearm after giving it to his 13-year-old son. The community had raised the alarm after seeing the young boy armed, leading to the father’s arrest and subsequent bail release for R1,000.

The Gauteng Department of Education has expressed its devastation over the incident. Spokesperson Steve Mabona announced that psycho-social units have been dispatched to the affected school to provide support to students and staff members during this trying time.

This incident has reignited conversations around gun ownership laws and the need for increased security measures in schools across South Africa. The community of Primrose, along with the entire nation, is now waiting for further developments as the police continue their investigation into the origin of the firearm and the events that led to this tragic occurrence.
