Chaos in Zimbabwe parliament

Harare-There was chaos in Zimbabwe Parliament on Wednesday as opposition legislators blocked their Zanu PF counterparts from debating the 2020 budget statement.

The opposition legislators were seeking an explanation over Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube’s mathematical gaffe over the amount of money that the Chinese had injected in the country’s economy.

Business was brought to a halt with MDC legislators singing in the August house. This was after MDC Dzivarasekwa MP, Edwin Mushoriwa had told deputy speaker Tsitsi Gezi that members from his party doubted credibility of the budget statement therefore the Finance Minister should come and explain.

“China and America have raised concern about figures that have been raised by Mthuli Ncube. The figures have been disputed and has put the credibility of the national budget into disarray. Give a statement and clear allegations by the US and China” said Mushoriwa

Last month the Chinese Embassy raised concern over Minister Ncube’s budget presentation. Ncube said Zimbabwe had received US$3, 6 million from China under the development partner support received through bilateral channels when in fact China had availed US$136, 8 million between January and September this year.

Deputy Speaker Gezi said she had taken note of the legislators’ concerns
