CHIUNDURA, Zimbabwe – Three armed robbers attacked two bus passengers at Shambanebanga bus stop on December 1, stealing US$4,400 in cash and valuables, before a punctured tire led to one suspect’s arrest at Chizhou business centre.

Police identified the captured suspect as Everson Madzore, 40, from Old Ascot, Gweru, while two accomplices escaped, according to Midlands Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko.

The attack occurred at 4:00 PM local time (14:00 GMT) when the victims, who had just disembarked from a Gweru-bound bus near Holy Cross Dam in Chirumhanzu, were confronted by men wielding a machete, knife, and electric shocker.

“One of the complainants was struck on the head with a machete, while the other was electrocuted by an electric shocker,” Mahoko said in a statement.

The armed robbers fled in a silver Honda Fit, registration number AEJ 9906, after stealing two cellphones and two pairs of sneakers in addition to the cash. The total value of stolen items reached US$4,570.

Their escape was thwarted when their vehicle experienced a tire puncture at Chizhou business centre. A witness alerted local police, who mobilized community members to assist in the arrest.

Inspector Mahoko confirmed that none of the stolen property has been recovered. “We appeal to the public for assistance in locating the two suspects who managed to flee the scene,” he said.

Police are urging anyone with information about the remaining suspects to contact local authorities immediately.
