South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has praised the newly formed Government of National Unity (GNU), stating it will drive development and economic growth in the country. The GNU brings together 10 political parties to form what Ramaphosa calls a “strong, effective government.”
Ramaphosa addressed the media after a session with the National Council of Provinces in Cape Town. He emphasized the GNU’s potential to address socio-economic challenges and stabilize the political landscape. The President claims widespread public support for the initiative but acknowledges the need to educate citizens about the GNU’s purpose and structure.
A dinner was held with political leaders to discuss the GNU’s functioning and to review its progress. Ramaphosa mentioned that they also discussed dispute resolution mechanisms during this meeting.
In other news, the President announced he will sign the Basic Education Laws Amendment Bill on Friday. He also expressed concern for former finance minister Pravin Gordhan’s health.
