Mpho Moses Morolane, a prominent youth leader in South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, has announced his resignation after 10 years of involvement with the organization.

In a letter addressed to the EFF Secretary General, Morolane cited “unprecedented challenges to the July Movement” as the reason for his departure. He described his decision as bringing “both deep sorrows infused with joy.”

Morolane served in several key positions within the EFF, including:

Inaugural President of the EFF Students Command
Member of the Central Command Team
Member of the War Council

He praised the EFF for “radicalising the youth for the generational mission of economic freedom” and producing “quality leadership” capable of serving in various governmental structures.

The outgoing leader highlighted his efforts as a student activist, fighting for the rights of vulnerable workers in higher education institutions. He emphasized that many of these workers found “a political home in the EFF.”

While expressing gratitude for his time with the party, Morolane stated he is now pursuing “a different path.” He insisted this should not be seen as opposition to the EFF, but rather as “an upright move for the progressive fight to the restoration of the dignity of African people.”

The EFF, founded in 2013, is known for its left-wing policies and has become the third-largest party in South Africa’s National Assembly.

Morolane’s departure marks a significant change in the EFF’s youth leadership as the party approaches its second decade of existence.
