Harare-After a dismal performance at AFCON Zimbabwe national Senior Men’s Soccer coach Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambga has resigned from the position with immediate effect.

In a letter addressed to the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA), Chidzambga said July 24, 2019 will be his last day at work and expressed gratitude to ZIFA.

“This letter serves to notify you of my decision to resign from the position of the coach of the Zimbabwe men’s National Football team with immediate effect. My last day at work will be the 24th of July 2019.

“I wish to convey my profound gratitude to the Association for the time that I served as the national team coach” said Chidzambga

His decision comes less than a week before the national team plays Mauritius in the Chan Qualifiers.

He took the reins in December 2017 and has been under pressure after failing to bring results at the just ended 2019 Afcon. The team was eliminated in the group stages and registered their worst record at the tournament.

He had led the team to the finals, finishing as group leaders in the qualifiers and also won the Cosafa Cup in 2017 and 2018.

Zifa had not issued a statement on the new development.
