Harare -Opposition legislator for Zengeza and Deputy National Chairman of the Movement for Democratic Change Job ‘Wiwa’ Sikhala has been charged with subverting a lawfully elected government.

Sikhala was summoned to the police law and order section after he made utterances at a rally in Masvingo to the effect that the MDC would overthrow the Mnangagwa government.

A warned and cautioned statement has been recorded from him and he will appear in court tomorrow.

MDC deputy national spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka who on Tuesday disowned Sikhala’s comments said the party’s legal team tried in vain to have Sikhala released today.

“MDC vice chairman Hon. Job Sikhala has been charged with subverting a lawfully elected government. A warned and cautioned statement has been recorded from him and he will appear in court tomorrow. The party’s legal department tried to get him released today but it was in vain as they seemed to be acting on instructions” said Tamborinyoka

Tamborinyoka came under fire from MDC supporters and other neutrals as they vented their anger for what they described ‘a coward behaviour’.

They castigated the MDC leadership for not standing by one of their own at a time of need.

Sikhala will appear in court tomorrow at 9a.m.
