Tens of thousands of North Koreans pledged allegiance to Kim Jong-un in a powerful display of solidarity after Donald Trump’s fire and fury threat.

The mass rally at Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang saw thousands of North Koreans definitely raising their fists in the air and holding propaganda placards.

Footage from the rally shows utterly disciplined citizens standing rigidly as they are addressed before workers in white shirts march through the square brandishing flags and chanting.

The gathering took place yesterday days after the United Nations security council imposed strict sanctions and Donald Trump threatened to bring down ‘fire and fury’ on the nation.

In retaliation, General Kim Rak Gyom, who heads up North Korea’s rocket command, said his country was ‘about to take’ military action near US territory Guam.

He explained the country would land four mid-range missiles within 25 miles of the island.

The statement only served to escalate tensions further in a week that has seen a barrage of threats from both sides.

While nuclear confrontation still seems incredibly remote, the comments have sparked deep unease in the United States, Asia and beyond.

China, North Korea’s increasingly alienated ally, cautioned all sides against ’employing words or actions that could sharpen differences and escalate the situation.’
