An incensed Manchester United football club fanatic in Zimbabwe now faces jail after attacking a Liverpool Football club fan with a shovel.
It is reported that the Liverpool fan taunted the Manchester United fan as the Red Devils were thrashed 5-0 on Sunday.
This did not go down well as it left the Liverpool FC supporter nursing serious injuries after being struck with a shovel, a court heard.
Prosecutors charged Farai Munhenga, 28, with attempted murder when he made a brief appearance before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi on Monday.
Mangosi remanded Munhenga in custody to November 17 and advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.
Epworth police were called to a local bar between 6PM and 7PM on Sunday and arrived to a bloody scene after victim Steven Muzikoza was struck on the face with a shovel, allegedly by Munhenga. Muzikoza also suffered injuries to his hands.
The court heard that the two men were watching the English Premier League match between Manchester United and Liverpool when the mood in the bar changed as Liverpool humiliated their bitter rivals 5-0.
When Muzikoza, a Liverpool fan, taunted Munhenga over the loss, the latter allegedly grabbed a shovel and attacked him.
Munhenga, the court heard, was apprehended by other fans who waited for police to arrive.
