Malawi Police have arrested their most wanted Chinese suspected wildlife criminal.
Yunhua Lin was arrested by the police in Mzuzu city in the south-east of the country’s biggest Nyika National Park, in northern Malawi.
Thomeck Nyaude, the Deputy Spokesperson for Malawi police Service said the suspect was found in possession of pangolin scales, rhino tooth, 10 KG of Ivory and dried snakes.
Nyaude said Lin had been engaging in poaching and smuggling of the wildlife for so long and had been on the run till Monday when he met his fate.
“We are keeping the suspect in custody and he will appear before court soon,” said Nyaude .
He said this time around, the police collaborated with the department of parks and wildlife to intensify security for wildlife evening which eventually led to the arrest of the Chinese national.
In May this year, the police in collaboration with the same department arrested 9 more chines nationals found in possession of wildlife materials.
An award winning Brighton Kumchedwa, the Director of Parks and Wildlife in Malawi has challenged to intesify security in all wildlife protected areas ,and crackdown on any suspect.
