THE RUSSIAN Prime Minister has warned the world that the United States President Donald Trump’s airstrike on Syria came “within an inch” of sparking war
The Russian Prime Minister said the hit on the Syrian air base broke international law, and “completely ruined relations” between the two nations.Trump launched more than 50 Tomahawk missiles from the US Navy warships in the Mediterranean Sea in revenge for Syria’s chemical attack which left 70 civilians dead.Medvedev also state that the United States was “on the verge” of facing the wrath of Russia’s military.
He said in a statement on Facebook: “Nobody is overestimating the value of pre-election promises but there must be limits of decency.
“Beyond that is absolute mistrust. Which is really sad for our now completely ruined relations. And which is good news for terrorists.
“Soon after his victory, I noted that everything would depend on how soon Trump’s election promises would be broken by the existing power machine. It took only two and a half months.”
The US is not backing down, with its UN ambassador Nikki Haley telling a security council meeting that Washington had taken “a very measured step” but was ready to go further.
She said: “We are prepared to do more. But we hope that will not be necessary.
“It is time for all civilised nations to stop the horrors that are taking place in Syria and demand a political solution.
“The moral stain of the Assad regime could no longer go unanswered.”
Russia has been supporting the Syrian president Bashar al-Assad in his attacks on rebel-held parts of the country.
Harrowing images from last week’s chemical attack show the victims — 29 of whom were children — being slowly killed by the deadly gas.
In a video statement, Trump condemned the Syrian leader as he announced the targeted military strike.
The use of chemical weapons against civilians in Syria has sparked a diplomatic incident, as Trump’s airstrikes has him squaring up to the Putin-supported Assad regime. Could this be the start of a new Cold War?
He said: “Assad choked out the lives of helpless men, women and children. It was a slow and brutal death for so many.”Even beautiful babies were cruelly murdered in this very barbaric attack.”Along with Russia, Iran — another key ally of Assad — condemned the strike by the US which it called the “Great Satan”.Syria has denied being behind the attack after a host of western nations condemned Assad for his brutal regime.
And the country’s government said the attack only helps ISIS as the terror cult battles to regain territory in its homeland
