A Zimbabwean musician known for praising President Emmerson Mnangagwa has publicly thanked the leader for funding his cancer treatment in India. Chief Hwenje made the announcement while performing at a road commissioning ceremony in Shurugwi last Thursday.
The artist, whose legal name is Admire Sanyange Sibanda, was diagnosed with lymphoma, a cancer affecting the lymphatic system. Despite his recent medical procedure, he performed at the official opening of the resurfaced Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe Road.
“The President ensured that I got all the treatment and attention that I needed,” Hwenje said during an interview at the event. He noted that the First Family regularly monitored his recovery progress.
The 43-kilometer road project ceremony drew local officials and supporters, with Hwenje delivering what witnesses described as an energetic performance despite his health condition.
The musician also expressed gratitude to ZANU PF leadership in Midlands Province and Gutu West legislator John Paradza for supporting his family during his absence.
Medical professionals have advised Hwenje to postpone work on his upcoming album while he recovers. “My medical team strongly advised me to rest, and I am duty bound to do as they have directed,” he said.
The artist is currently recuperating at his rural home and will resume his musical career upon medical clearance.
