Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has pledged to overhaul the country’s struggling health sector.

In his State of the Nation Address, Mr Mnangagwa promised to provide essential drugs and equipment to hospitals nationwide.

“Government is availing resources for the acquisition of essential medicines and specialist medical equipment,” he told Parliament.

The president also announced plans to introduce telemedicine for remote areas and continue health sector reforms.

These promises come as Zimbabwe faces a severe healthcare crisis. Public hospitals lack basic supplies and equipment, including radiotherapy machines. The sector has also seen an exodus of medical professionals seeking better opportunities abroad.

Critics have accused Mr Mnangagwa’s government of neglecting healthcare, leaving many citizens without access to basic medical services.

While the pledges have been cautiously welcomed, many Zimbabweans remain sceptical about their implementation.

The success of these initiatives will depend on effective resource allocation and execution of the proposed measures.
