A Zimbabwean woman has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for fatally stabbing her husband’s girlfriend.
Stacey Mkandla, 34, killed Brightness Phiri after finding her in bed with Mkandla’s husband in Gweru, central Zimbabwe.
The attack took place in February when Mkandla, who had been at a church service, was alerted by neighbours to her husband’s infidelity.
Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Ms Phiri “collapsed and died while fleeing naked” after being confronted.
Prosecutor Clemence Chimbari told the court that Mkandla had used a knife to stab Ms Phiri “multiple times” in “delicate areas”.
The defence argued for leniency, citing “extreme provocation”.
In an impact statement, the victim’s sister said the family had received only $1,000 (£790) from Mkandla’s husband for funeral expenses.
Justice Naison Chivayo delivered the sentence at Gweru High Court on Tuesday.
The case has highlighted issues of infidelity and domestic violence in Zimbabwe.
Mkandla turned herself in to police after the incident.
