Man arrested at Beitbridge carrying detonating fuses worth R105,000 hidden in bus luggage.
A 53-year-old foreign national faces court charges after being caught with explosives at the South Africa-Zimbabwe border, discovered during a routine bus search.
The suspect was arrested by the Hawks on January 17 at Beitbridge Port of Entry after finding three reels of detonating fuse hidden in a bag placed atop a bus’s fuel tank.
Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Lethunya Mmuroa said bomb technicians confirmed the discovery of 350-meter detonating fuses, valued at more than R105,000. The suspect’s passport was found alongside the explosives.
“This arrest demonstrates the success of law enforcement in combating transnational crime,” said Major General Gopz Govender, Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court on charges related to illegal possession of explosives.
