Zimbabwean opposition legislator HAPPYMORE Chidziva has been arrested on charges of sexually abusing a minor, sources close to the matter have reported.
Chidziva is expected to appear in court on Wednesday to face charges related to the alleged abuse of a 16-year-old girl who is reportedly related to him.
The arrest comes after allegations surfaced through leaked audio recordings in which the minor’s mother was heard confronting Chidziva about the alleged abuse.
Sources suggest that Chidziva’s arrest had been delayed due to alleged protection from colleagues within the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).
Under Zimbabwean law, any sexual relationship with a person under the age of 18 is criminalized, regardless of consent. The age of the alleged victim in this case is reported to be 16.
The case has raised concerns about the protection of minors and the accountability of public figures in Zimbabwe. As the matter is now before the courts, further details are expected to emerge during legal proceedings.
Chidziva and his legal representatives have not yet made any public statements regarding the allegations or the arrest.
