Five people have died and several others injured when a bus bound for Zimbabwe overturned in South Africa’s Limpopo province.

The Tamuka Luxury coach, travelling from Johannesburg, crashed on Sunday evening near Mokopane town, about 280km (170 miles) north of Pretoria.

Four men and one woman were killed in the accident, local officials confirmed. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The crash occurred on the N1 highway, a major route connecting South Africa’s economic hub to its northern neighbours.

This incident follows another fatal bus crash in the region last Tuesday, where 10 people died when a Mzansi Express coach travelling from Zimbabwe to Johannesburg overturned near Polokwane.

The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety is investigating both accidents.

Road safety remains a significant concern in South Africa, with the country experiencing one of the world’s highest road fatality rates.
