Kwara state’s Ufa Dania has surged ahead of Chidimma Vanessa Adetshina, representing Taraba state, in the Miss Universe Nigeria public vote, just hours before voting closes on Friday.
Chidimma Adetshina had led the public vote for a significant period, but a dramatic shift has seen Dania rise as a strong contender. On Thursday, Dania’s public vote count was under 10,000, but today, it has soared to over 20,000. Adetshina currently follows with just over 18,000 votes.
Dania, a dark-skinned, plus-sized model, is challenging conventional beauty standards. Her recent popularity spike is credited to her confidence in embracing her curves, resonating with many African women.
“I may not look like a standard pageant girl, but I beg to differ,” Dania remarked. “I cannot be boxed. The trajectory of my life has led me to this moment. I’ve always been chubby. I may not fit the mould, but that’s the beauty of it. I’m here to break the mould.”
The 25-year-old content creator, photographer, stylist, and filmmaker is also the founder of the Minds and Heart Foundation, an NGO focusing on girls’ education, female empowerment, arts and creativity development, and mental health advocacy. “What makes a woman a true queen is not just her looks but her commitment to her community,” Dania added.
As the countdown to the Miss Universe Nigeria crown intensifies, the top three contestants with the most public votes will secure a place in the top 10 for Saturday’s grand finale at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos. The winner will receive ₦10 million in cash.
