Malawi’s outspoken Human Rights Defenders Coalition chairperson Gift Trapence was today morning involved in a road accident along Zalewa road enroute to the southern city of Blantyre.
Trapence who said was together with his wife and son during the accident, saw the vehicle over-turning three times after avoiding a cyclist who was in a wrong lane of the road.
He said his wife is complaining of neck pains whilst his 11 year-old son is experiencing back pains.
The HRDC chairperson said is having pains on the shoulder added that they are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Blantyre.
However Trapence has declined to mention the hospital he was rushed to citing security reasons.
The accident comes barely two days before leading the coalition meeting with Health Minister Jappie Mhango over COVID-19 “allowance scam”.
