Staff ReporterUnited States President Donald Trump is set to attend a NATO leaders’ summit in the U.K. in December.
The meeting was announced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday.
“[The meeting will be] an opportunity for Allied Heads of State and Government to address the security challenges we face now and in the future, and to ensure that NATO continues to adapt in order to keep its population of almost one billion people safe,” Stoltenberg said in a statement.
He said he was “grateful” to the United Kingdom for agreeing to host the the summit, describing London as “the ideal setting to mark 70 years of transatlantic cooperation.”
If Trump attends, it will be his second visit to the U.K. after a three-day trip last July, when an estimated £18 million was spent on security costs and he claimed Queen Elizabeth II kept him waiting.
“December’s meeting is an important opportunity to determine the steps we must now take to modernise the Alliance and ensure its continued success,” U.K. Prime Minister Theresa May said in a statement.
