Family Feud Turns Criminal: Two Brothers Face Off in Court Over Alleged Plot to Eliminate Sibling
In a case that could easily be mistaken for a courtroom drama, two brothers appeared before a Harare court this week in a matter dating back over a decade.
Mr. Trust Chifamba, a qualified Electrical Engineer, stands accused of perverting the course of justice in relation to events from 2010, in which his elder brother, Civil Engineer Elijah Chifamba, was allegedly wrongfully arrested and tortured.
According to court submissions, Trust is accused of using their mother, Mrs. Marian Chifamba, as a pawn in the plot that led to Elijah’s arrest on charges which, close family members claim, have since been proven to be malicious.
The case has taken a darker turn with fresh allegations that, in 2010, Trust sought assistance from unnamed individuals to have Elijah eliminated. The matter has been set for trial in the Magistrates’ Court on 28 August 2025.
One family member, speaking on condition of anonymity, alleged that tensions between the brothers go back as far as 2005. In that year, Trust is said to have discharged a firearm in a public place during an attempt to shoot Elijah.
“He has a temper. Why he was allowed to keep his gun after that incident, no one knows!” said the relative.
Another family member expressed exhaustion over the long-running feud:
“Taneta nenyaya idzi… yekuti munin’ina anoita ruvengo nemukoma wake kusvika pakuda kumupfuudza” — translated as, “We are tired of these issues, that a younger brother harbours such hatred towards his elder brother to the point of wanting to kill him.”
Sources close to the family say the dispute has left deep scars, splitting relatives into opposing factions and leaving relations irreparably strained.
The trial is expected to attract significant public interest, given the high-profile professional standing of both brothers and the explosive nature of the allegations.
