The Socio-Economic Rights Institute (SERI) has condemned dudula-protests-block-immigrant-baby-vaccinations/">Operation Dudula, describing its protest outside SERI’s Braamfontein offices as misdirected. On Thursday, Operation Dudula protested, accusing SERI of operation-dudula-wanting-to-know-why-organisations-prioritise-foreign-nationals/">shielding undocumented migrants. The demonstration faced opposition from a counter-protest by Abahlali Basemjondolo, who supported SERI.
SERI spokesperson Nomzamo Zondi defended the organisation’s mission, stating, “We believe in human rights for everyone. The four organisations we represent are unwavering in this commitment.” Zondi suggested Dudula misunderstands SERI’s role, adding, “If they knew who we are, they would understand you don’t march to a lawyer’s office.”
The confrontation highlights ongoing tensions in South Africa over migration and human rights, with SERI standing firm on its advocacy for universal rights against Dudula’s anti-migrant stance.
