The R71 road in Limpopo has been closed following a serious accident involving a truck carrying gas cylinders in Magoebaskloof on Wednesday morning, 16 July 2025. The crash triggered multiple explosions and set fire to a nearby plantation above Ruskamp.
Emergency services are at the scene, working to control the situation, according to acting provincial transport spokesperson Matome Taueatsoala. No injuries have been reported so far.
The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has urged motorists to avoid the area and prioritise safety, recommending alternative routes such as the R81 via Modjadjiskloof or the R528 via George’s Valley, though the latter is reported to have poor road conditions. The road remains closed until further notice, with updates to follow as more details emerge.
