Born in January 2002 as Ssenyonjo Frank, Pest Vybz ug is a name quickly gaining momentum on Uganda’s vibrant music scene. Hailing from Makindye Division, Kampala, this young artist blends dancehall with afrobeat rhythms to create a sound that is uniquely his own yet resonates far beyond Uganda’s borders.
In an exclusive interview with Report Focus News, Pest Vybz ug opened up about his journey, sharing the story behind his intriguing stage name. “They used to call me Pest back in the days because I was always everywhere, energetic, unstoppable,” he laughed. “But as I grew musically, I added ‘Vybz’ because my music is all about vibes – positive vibes, dancehall vibes, life vibes.”

Before stepping into the spotlight as a singer, Pest Vybz ug honed his craft behind the scenes as a songwriter, creating music for others and shaping his lyrical abilities. The transition from songwriter to performer came naturally. “I realised the songs I was writing carried my own voice and story,” he shared. “No one could deliver them with the feeling I had, so I decided to sing them myself.”

Pest Vybz ug draws inspiration from both local Ugandan legends and international stars. He proudly credits Ugandan icons like Bobi Wine, King Saha, and Sama Sojah for shaping his style and stage energy, while internationally, he finds influence in the sounds of Vybz Kartel , Tupac, and Michael Jackson , merging Jamaican dancehall vibes with authentic African rhythms to craft his signature sound.
