Police in Pretoria arrested three men on Tuesday, 1 July 2025, for printing and possessing counterfeit South African rand and US dollar notes. The arrests followed an operation by the Lyttelton police station’s undercover unit at a shopping centre.
Officers observed a man acting suspiciously at an ATM and found counterfeit notes mixed with blank paper in his bag during a search. The suspect guided police to a house where they discovered additional fake rand and dollar notes, along with equipment used for printing the counterfeit currency.
Two other men at the house were also arrested. The three are due to appear in court soon, facing charges related to printing and possessing counterfeit money.
The total value of the seized notes remains undisclosed. Police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the printing operation.
