Cape Town’s anti-gang unit is appealing for public assistance to solve the murder of André Naudé, a 55-year-old alleged underworld figure killed two weeks ago in a targeted shooting on Voortrekker Road, Parow. The attack, which occurred at approximately 14:40, left Naudé dead and a 61-year-old man injured, while two others, aged 45 and 54, escaped unharmed. Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said cases of murder and attempted murder have been opened, with no arrests made. Crime scene experts and detectives are actively analyzing evidence to identify the perpetrators.

André Naudé was a prominent figure in Cape Town’s nightclub security industry and the fifth accused in the Brian Wainstein murder trial to be killed. Wainstein, an alleged steroid dealer known as the “Steroid King,” was assassinated in his Constantia home in August 2017. The trial, delayed by procedural and medical issues, also involves Mark Lifman, killed in George on 3 November 2024, and Jerome “Donkie” Booysen, a reputed gang boss. Booysen and Igor “The Russian” Russol, another co-accused, were seen carrying Naudé’s coffin at his funeral, highlighting their ties within Cape Town’s underworld.

The Wainstein trial centers on allegations that André Naudé, Mark Lifman, and Jerome Booysen orchestrated Wainstein’s murder to protect their interests in nightclub security and the illegal steroid trade. Prosecutors allege the group operated a violent criminal enterprise, facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, money laundering, illegal firearm possession, and obstruction of justice. The case has drawn attention for exposing organized crime networks in Cape Town’s nightlife sector.

Naudé’s murder is part of a disturbing pattern of attacks on Wainstein trial figures, raising concerns about a possible campaign to target key players. Lifman was gunned down in a daylight execution at Garden Route Mall, captured on CCTV, showing him shot multiple times. Days before, Naudé narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on the N1 near Paarl, repelling gunmen by drawing his own weapon. These incidents reflect the ongoing violence linked to Cape Town’s underworld power struggles.

The Parow shooting appears to be a carefully planned hit, consistent with patterns of organized crime. Police are seeking video footage or witness accounts to advance the investigation. “We urge anyone with visuals or information to contact us,” said van Wyk. Detective Sergeant Carl Jooste of the anti-gang unit can be reached at 071 300 5029. Public cooperation is vital to solving this high-profile case and addressing the broader challenge of gang-related violence in Cape Town.

With five accused in the Wainstein trial now dead, questions persist about whether these killings are coordinated to silence key figures or settle underworld disputes. The anti-gang unit remains focused on uncovering the truth behind Naudé’s murder. Authorities are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice while working to curb the city’s persistent gang violence, which continues to pose a significant challenge to public safety.
