Ninety-five individuals were arrested after an anti-President Emmerson Mnangagwa protest in Harare’s Robert Mugabe Square on March 31, 2025. The protesters face charges under the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act for allegedly inciting violence and disrupting public peace.

The group is accused of gathering with the intent to overthrow the president, while engaging in violent acts, including chanting provocative slogans, throwing objects at police officers, and sharing videos of the event on social media. A WhatsApp group, “Nyokayemabhunu,” allegedly managed by a South African phone number, is said to have facilitated communication during the protest.

While 94 individuals were arrested on-site, the 95th person was tracked down through digital evidence. Authorities claim the suspects were identified via both social media posts and in-person recognition. Detective Sergeant Lovemore Chisi, leading the investigation, has opposed bail, citing concerns that the accused may abscond or further threaten police officers, with additional suspects still at large.

The investigation is expected to conclude by April 15, 2025, with 20 witnesses anticipated to testify. The accused remain in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
