ZIMBABWE- Members of Parliament (MPs) and select government officials will soon benefit from express lanes at specific tollgates under a new pilot project, Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda has announced.

The initiative, introduced by the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (ZINARA), will be rolled out at Skyline, Dema, and Eskbank tollgates. Vehicles using the express lanes must be fitted with an electronic tag (e-tag), which will be scanned automatically to open the boom barrier, eliminating the need for cash transactions.

“The infrastructure has been established with extra-wide detour lanes designated as express lanes,” Mudenda told Parliament. “To use these lanes, vehicles must be equipped with an e-tag, which will be scanned by the system. Once detected, the boom barrier will open automatically.”

ZINARA officials will be available at the New Parliament Building on 26 February and 5 March 2025, from 09:00 to 16:00, to install the required e-tags. MPs are advised to bring their two exempted vehicles along with their registration documents for installation.

Officials warn that failure to install e-tags could lead to delays at tollgates for exempted vehicles. Additionally, express lanes will not have cashiers on duty, reinforcing the need for all eligible vehicles to be properly tagged.
