HARARE – Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has endorsed the United States’ plan to deport over 500 Zimbabwean citizens who are living in America without proper documentation.
“The Government of Zimbabwe supports the United States Government’s decision to repatriate and return our Zimbabwean citizens who may have been residing in the US illegally,” Mnangagwa announced on social media platform X.
The group of 545 Zimbabweans are among 1.4 million non-citizens targeted for removal by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under a November 2024 enforcement program.
The planned deportations reflect increased immigration enforcement efforts by US authorities, with Zimbabwe’s government now publicly backing the repatriation of its citizens.
