JOHANNESBURG – Eskom has warned of possible load shedding this weekend, potentially reaching Stage 4, following more than 10 months of stable electricity supply. The announcement came as the utility battles multiple generation unit breakdowns and depleted emergency reserves.

Group Chief Executive Dan Marokane said while load shedding is “largely behind us,” recent technical issues require emergency measures to maintain grid stability.

The power utility reported several breakdowns in its generation fleet over the past week, requiring extended repairs and draining emergency reserves that now need replenishment.

Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa and Eskom officials will provide an electricity generation update later today.
