HARARE – Edgars Stores Limited will open 20 new Express outlets across Zimbabwe this year, investing US$10,000 per store to compete with the growing second-hand clothing market. The expansion comes as the retailer reported increased losses of US$338,292 in the half-year to July 2024.

Group CEO Sevious Mushosho said the new stores will focus on making quality clothing accessible to lower-income communities.

Express outlets are already operational in key locations including Simon Mazorodze, Mutare, Hogerty Hill, and Marondera, targeting budget-conscious consumers.

The expansion strategy aims to counter Zimbabwe’s volatile exchange rate impact on disposable incomes while competing with second-hand clothing traders.

Mushosho expressed support for government measures to restrict second-hand clothing imports, suggesting it would boost local retail and improve consumer access to new clothing.
