Court hears Cape Town businessman Mark Lifman shouted “NO!!!!” moments before being gunned down at Garden Route Mall.
The final moments of alleged underworld figure Mark Lifman were disclosed during a dramatic bail hearing for his accused killers in George Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
A car guard’s statement revealed Lifman’s last utterance was a desperate “NO!!!!” before shots rang out in the Garden Route Mall parking lot on November 3, 2024. The testimony came during bail proceedings for suspects Gert Bezuidenhout and Johannes Hendrik Jacobs.
Security footage showed the suspects waiting in a white VW Polo as Lifman left Studio 88 with shopping bags, according to investigating officer Lieutenant-Colonel Dirk van Reenen.
The accused’s lawyer, Advocate Michael Hellens, maintained his clients would plead not guilty and posed no flight risk. The court will consider bail applications on Friday.
Jerome “Donkie” Booysen, Lifman’s associate, has linked Bezuidenhout to Alwyn Landman, a PPA Security shareholder, claiming Bezuidenhout regularly acted on Landman’s behalf.
