Johannesburg – Popular Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP and the party’s former national spokesperson, Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, has resigned from South Africa’s Parliament, the party confirmed on Thursday.
The EFF issued a statement saying, “The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has received the voluntary resignations of fighter Yazini Tetyana and fighter Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi as representatives of the EFF in the Parliament of South Africa.”
The resignations were sent to the EFF’s secretary-general, Marshall Dlamini, within days of each other. Both Ndlozi and Tetyana expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunity to serve the organisation and the South African public.
The EFF acknowledged the contributions of both individuals, stating, “They have both been exemplary in their deployments and acted as commendable public representatives.” The party has accepted their requests to step down from their parliamentary roles, noting their diligent service since the EFF gained legislative representation.
Ndlozi, who has been a member of the National Assembly since 2014, was notably absent from the EFF’s third elective congress in Johannesburg last December. His absence fueled speculation about a rift with party leader Julius Malema and raised questions regarding his future within the party.
Yazini Tetyana, on the other hand, had a significant role in the Eastern Cape, leading the EFF there before moving to the national Parliament.
The resignations come at a time when the EFF is facing challenges in maintaining its financial and political standing. Recently, EFF leader Julius Malema called on branch members to fundraise to support the party’s activities, highlighting the financial strain and the importance of grassroots support for the “revolution” (READ | ‘Finance the revolution’: Malema wants EFF branch members to fundraise to keep party afloat).
As the EFF wishes both Ndlozi and Tetyana well in their future endeavours, the party looks to navigate this transition period, maintaining its influence both within Parliament and among its supporters.
