Two-car crash near Belfast claims multiple lives including toddler, one person hospitalized.
Seven people died when two cars collided head-on along the N4 Toll Road between Belfast and Wonderfontein in Mpumalanga on Tuesday afternoon. A two-year-old child was among the victims.
The crash occurred around 2 PM when one vehicle lost control and veered into oncoming traffic, according to Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for community safety, security and liaison.
Five occupants died in one vehicle and two in the other, including both drivers. One severely injured person was rushed to hospital.
“Reckless and negligent driving cannot be ruled out,” Mmusi said as investigations continue.
MEC Jackie Macie called the deaths avoidable and urged motorist caution on the priority route. “Despite our plans to reduce deadly crashes, motorists must obey rules and enhance road safety,” he said.
