Legendary South African actor Sello Motloung has died at the age of 55, his family has announced.

Motloung, known for his roles in popular TV shows such as “Backstage”, “Mamello”, and “Ring of Lies”, passed away on Sunday, 15 September
.
In a statement, his family said: “We are devastated to inform you of the sudden passing of Ntate Sello Motloung. His family is in shock and we ask that you give them space at this time.”

The actor’s most recent appearances included roles in “016FM”, “Blood Psalms”, and the third season of “The Wife”.

Motloung’s death follows the recent losses of other prominent figures in the South African entertainment industry, including actor Teboho Ndarana, known as Darlington ‘Papa G’ Michaels, and actress Connie Chiume, both of whom died in August.

Tributes have poured in for Motloung on social media. Actors Spaces, a platform for performers, wrote: “His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. Rest in peace bra Sello. Your light will forever shine in our hearts.”

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) also paid tribute, saying: “The SABC is profoundly saddened by the passing of Ntate Sello Motloung. His significant role in shaping the entertainment landscape will never be forgotten.”

Motloung was widely respected in the South African entertainment industry, with a career spanning several decades. He was known for his versatility as an actor and his contributions to both television and theatre.

The cause of death has not been announced. Funeral arrangements are yet to be made public by the family.
