Johannesburg the City of Gold has a new mayor in Mpho Moerane, as announced on Friday 1 October. Not many Jozi citizens are expected to know a great deal about their new leader.
Moerane takes over from Jolidee Matongo who unfortunately passed away following a Motor vehicle accident. Matongo had been campaigning with Mr Ramaphosa before the accident.
His vehicle collided with a van while trying to avoid a pedestrian who had run on to the road, he had not long been appointed mayor.
The new mayor Moerane was recently a member of the Mayoral Committee for Environment, Infrastructure, and Services in the City of Johannesburg. He is also the ANC’s Joburg Regional treasurer and worked as the head of fundraising in the office of the Treasurer-General.
But there’s is a lot more to discover about him. Where was he raised? How did he get to this position? What’s his education and family background?
According to the City of Johannesburg’s information, Mpho Moerane was born in Alexandra township, Johannesburg. He later moved to live with his own family in the suburb of Bryanston. Moerane is married to his wife Fikile, who is a professional in the IT and Finance sphere. The new Joburg mayor and his wife have four children.
